Rafeal Nadal has been awarded with the 2008 Prince of Asturias Sports award at a traditional ceremony on
Friday 24th Oct, in the Asturian capital. The Prince of Asturias Awards are held annually since 1981 to reward
scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian work done by individuals, work teams and institutions.

Rafa Nadal recibió el Premio As del Deporte en reconocimiento a su gran año, en el que ha alcanzado el número 1 del tenis mundial tras conquistar, entre otros, los torneos de Wimbledon y Roland Garros, así como la medalla de oro olímpica individual. El tenista no pudo estar presente en el acto debido a que ya ha comenzado con su exigente preparación, pero envió un cariñoso mensaje en vídeo que recibió una gran ovación. Рафа Надаль получил Премию AS в области Спорта в знак признательности Великому сезону который он провел, в котором он достиг первой строчки Мирового рейтинга, завоевав среди прочих титулы Уимблдон и Ролан Гаррос, а также Олимпийскую медаль. Теннисист не смог присутствовать на церемонии награждения, в связи с графиком тренировок, но отправил видео-сообщение, за которое получил море оваций.
