An aching right hip David Nalbandian contributed to David Nalbandian's demise in Estoril on Monday and could well threaten the two-time Roland Garros semifinalist's status for the French Open, which starts on May 24th.

"I'll do my best to try and play in Paris," said Nalbandian, following Monday's 6-2, 6-2 loss to 91st-ranked Chilean Paul Capdeville in the opening round of the Estoril Open.

Nalbandian pulled out of the Barcelona Open two weeks ago due to the right hip injury. He played with the injury in posting a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Nicolas Almagro in 63 minutes. The seventh-seeded Argentine was set to play World No. 1 Nadal in the Barcelona quarterfinals. Tournament doctor Angel Ruiz-Cotorro said Nalbandian was suffering from inflammation of his right hip. The 19th-ranked Argentine has beaten Nadal in two of their three meetings — all coming on hard court — and nearly swept the top-seed in straight sets at Indian Wells in March, but Nadal battled back with a fury.

The 27-year-old Argentine skipped last week's Rome Masters 1000 to rest and rehab for Estoril, which he has won twice. Nalbandian may try to play in Madrid next week or skip the event and try to regain his health in time for Roland Garros.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -David Nalbandian may need surgery on a hip injury, which would keep him out of the French Open, Wimbledon and Argentina's Davis Cup quarterfinal against the Czech Republic in July.

Nalbandian told Argentine TV TyC Sports on Tuesday that his right hip is hurting more each day, adding that he expects to make a decision on surgery before the end of the week. He said he would need four to six months to recover.

The French Open begins May 24, and Wimbledon opens on June 22. Argentina's Davis Cup quarterfinal is July 10-12.

Nalbandian, ranked No. 19, lost 6-2, 6-2 on Monday to Paul Capdeville of Chile in the first round of the Estoril Open in Portugal.

Argentine newspaper Clarin reported Tuesday that Nalbandian has already decided to have surgery May 13 in Barcelona.

Nalbandian was a Wimbledon finalist in 2002, and reached the French Open semifinals in 2004 and 2006.

He played in last year's Davis Cup final loss to Spain, but Argentina will be among the favorites to reach the final again with a team headed by No. 5 Juan Martin del Potro.

Аргентинский теннисист Давид Налбандян принял решение сделать операцию на травмированном правом бедре, срок восстановления после которой составит около четырех месяцев. Пресс-секретарь 19-й ракетки мира Бернардо Бальеро рассказал, что операция пройдет в следующую среду в Барселоне. Таким образом, Налбандян пропустит четвертьфинальный матч сборной Аргентины в Кубке Дэвиса в июле, а также три оставшихся турнира Большого Шлема в 2009 году – «Ролан Гаррос», «Уимблдон» и US Open, а возможно и весь оставшийся сезон.

Аналогичная травма бедра преследовала знаменитого бразильца Густаво Куэртена. После операций экс-первый номер мирового рейтинга и трехкратный победитель «Ролан Гаррос» так и не обрел свою прежнюю форму, завершив карьеру около года назад.

Аргентинец Давид Налбандян был успешно прооперирован в Барселоне. Его лечащий врач Анхел Руис Которро рассказал, что «Давид прекрасно себя чувствует».

«Мы с Давидом решили, что до окончания первой фазы реабилитации мы пробудем здесь, в Барселоне, а после этого, в конце мая, отправимся домой, в Аргентину. Мы надеемся, что процесс восстановления займет не более четырех месяцев, и Давид вернется на корт, как только это будет возможно», – цитирует доктора Руиса Которро ESPNstar.

David Nalbandian has undergone a successfully hip surgery in Barcelona.

The 27-year-old was operated on in Barcelona to heal an injury he has been carrying for almost one year and may be off the courts for four months.

On his official website, the world's number 15 said: "I still have a lot to play for and I keep my goal to retire by winning a Grand Slam or the Davis Cup. It would be the best."

"David's health condition is perfect. He is very well," said Nalbandian's doctor Angel Ruiz Cotorro.

"We have decided with David that he will complete the first phase of the rehabilitation here in Barcelona and then after that phase that is due to be completed in late May, he will fly back to Argentina.

"We hope David will recover in no more than four months and he can go back to the tennis courts as soon as possible."

спасибо.
я бы только хотела пояснить, что фамилия упомянутого в русском переводе врача - Которро, а Анхель Руис - имя. он не является личным физиотерапевтом Налбандяна. английское physician означает просто терапевт. Которро - очень известный в Испании, и не только, специалист, он многих консультирует, в том числе Надаля. Которро консультирует Давида как терапевт по поводу его проблемы с бедром.
